The NoMen on Vinyl
With a new NoMen album coming out on vinyl here’s a look back over twenty years of records the NoMen have either made themselves or been a part of. Some of these are so rare they would break the bank if they ever came on the market, some of them are still available for only £2 from the band!!! www.thenomen.org

Jowe Head. Merman Blues b/w Baby Bounce features The NoMen on backing vocals. This was the second record released on Topplers in 2004 who went on to release many CD albums with Jowe, some of which also featured the NoMen.
Looks like Jowe has got copies of this on his website.

Steve Treatment and The NoMen. 2005 five track single.
The NoMen originally got together to be Steve’s backing band. This is their only release on vinyl.
There are five of Steve’s songs which the NoMen arranged and recorded then sent the backing tapes to Steve in London where he added the vocals.
The single came in an enormous fold out poster sleeve.
You can still get this single here...

Jowe Head. Cake Shop Girl 7” This was released to celebrate the opening of the Cake Shop bar/cafe in New York in 2006. The NoMen had already recorded a version of the Swell Maps' song Cake Shop Girl so for this version Jowe was sent the backing track and added his vocals!
On the other side New York City quartet Cause Co-Motion! are featured with their song Only Fades Away.
Jowe Head eventually got to play live at the Cake Shop and Allan NoMan popped in for a coffee one morning while on holiday!

Mr Luggs. The NoMen are the backing band on the Dafty Duck track. This is a clear vinyl lathe cut made by the legendary Peter King in New Zealand. 30 copies were made in 2006 and, to be honest, the quality was pretty shit, but it did suit Mr Luggs’ haphazard style!!!

Phones Sportsman and The NoMen. Ex Swell Maps founder Phones Sportsman is on one side with his song I Am The Dad Of George NoMan and The NoMen are on the other side with their first original composition I Am The Son of Phones Sportsman originally written about 2004 before we’d even made contact with Phones. The NoMen also cover the Swell Maps Stephen Does, My Little Shop and Phones’ Woke Up This Morning.
20 clear vinyl copies were made in 2008 by the legendary Peter King in New Zealand. This was much better sonic quality than the Mr Luggs pressing and came in an A3 fold out sleeve.

The NoMen. I Hear A New World. 10” LP on Strange Fish Records 2018. The NoMen covered the whole of Joe Meek’s classic sci-fi album with some help from The Blue Giant Zeta Puppies.
This was done for the band’s own amusement but The Blue Giant Zetas sent it to their friend Keith who runs Fruit-de-Mer Records and he loved it and released it on his Strange Fish label. Approx 160 copies were made with card sleeves inside a poly cover with stickers and an insert.
Like anything related to the Fruit-de-Mer label these sold out quickly but they do pop up on eBay and Discogs from time to time at ridiculous prices! MORE INFO

The NoMen. The Bomb. 5” lathe cut on clear square vinyl! Made by lathecuts.com in Arizona. 25 copies made in 2014.
Came in a hand printed card sleeve with a woodcut of Robert Oppenheimer which people assumed was either William Burroughs or Jah Wobble! A CD of the four tracks along with some extras was included in the package along with a lyric book with more “bomb” related woodcuts by Allan NoMan.

The NoMen. BLACK. 12” lathe cut LP made by Bladud Flies. Less than ten copies were made.
It came in a BLACK sleeve with a BLACK sticker and contained a lyric sheet printed in BLACK on BLACK paper. It was pressed on BLACK vinyl.

Lima Llama - Three copies made as a clear vinyl 12” lathe cut by Lathe To The Grave 2023. Made for the band only and not really a NoMen record.
We’d all watched the documentary series about the Irish girls who ended up in jail in Lima after acting as drug mules and for some reason decided to add samples from the series to some instrumental tracks we were playing about with. This was the result and it’s pretty good though you’ll never get to hear it!!! Two tracks were repurposed for the band’s Drone Angel CD.

The NoMen. I Committed a Crime. 7” lathe cut with a pop-up gatefold sleeve, 2023. Three copies made by Bladud Flies with a hand made “pop-up” gatefold sleeve!
The main track was originally released on the C23 cassette at the end of 2022.

The NoMen. Ray Vaughn 12” one sided lathe cut made by Bladud Flies. Three copies were made in August 2024 purely for the band’s own amusement!
It is ten solid minutes of nineties style RAVE electro!

The NoMen. Ultra Mantra. 12” LP pencilled in for early 2025.
Semi psychedelic rock! A CD album with more tracks will be available along with two companion albums of dreamy instrumentals.
